Ouachita Bridge Academy

A Virtual School Program for Student Success

Posted on 07/12/2017

What is Ouachita Bridge Academy (OBA)?

The new Ouachita Bridge Academy is an alternative learning solution to the traditional school setting. For 2017-2018, OBA will operate as a pilot with openings only for those students zoned to the respective high schools in Ouachita Parish, but who are not currently enrolled in our system. Rules and regulations set forth in the OPSS Pupil Progression Plan and those in the school of zone handbooks govern the OBA virtual school students.

How do I enroll my child in OBA?

1. Determine which school your child is zoned to attend. If you are not certain, contact Anthony Moore, Director of Child Welfare and Attendance (318.432.5610).For the pilot year, enrollment is open to students who are zoned to, but currently not enrolled in the Ouachita Parish School System.

2. Take proof of residency to the identified school and request to speak to the Ouachita Bridge Academy campus representative (as listed above).  Once you have proved residency and answered a few preliminary questions regarding connectivity, you will receive an application packet.

3. Return the completed application packet to the high school campus for which your child is zoned. If your child was homeschooled, he/she may be required to take a placement test in order to best align courses and fulfill graduation requirements. Students will be assigned a day, time and place for placement testing. Louisiana Virtual School students will not be required to take a placement test. If placement testing is required, the OBA representative will contact you regarding a testing date. [Placement testing dates will be assigned after July 31.]

4. If a placement test is not required, upon receipt of the completed application packet, the OBA representative will set up an interview date and time. After the interview is completed, a designee from the school will contact you with further instructions.

When can I pick up a packet to begin registration?

Application packets will be available beginning Monday, July 17, 2017 and are available at each of the five high schools in Ouachita Parish. Completed packets are to be returned to the campus to which your child is zoned. At that time, the campus representative will provide instructions regarding the next steps (see Q3).

What are the costs to attend OBA?

Costs associated with attending OBA include but are not limited to the student’s school ID and graduation costs, as applicable. The specific costs will be outlined in the student interview and may vary from campus to campus.

For more information, contact the high school for which your child is zoned.
