Ouachita Parish receives perfect audit for 36th straight year

Ouachita Parish School Board received an unmodified opinion with no findings on the agency’s financial statements and compliance audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024. The unmodified “clean” opinion from an independent accounting firm is the highest opinion possible.

"I am proud to be a part of the Ouachita Parish School system and proud to have back-to-back audits with no findings," said Regina Mekus, OPSB Chief Financial Officer. "I feel that a clean audit is evidence that as a district on every level at every location, we strive to be good stewards of the funds and responsibilities entrusted to us by the community."

The annual comprehensive audit report was conducted by Allen, Green & Williamson, a certified public accounting firm in Monroe.

"There is a tremendous amount of work done each year to complete our audit by CFO Regina Mekus and her team,” said Todd Guice, OPSB Superintendent. “However, this process is nearly a year-round task that extends beyond our Central Office to every school and department in the system. It is truly a team effort, and a responsibility that we take very seriously to ensure that we are being great stewards of the funds placed in our charge. I want to give a big thank you to all of our employees that work every day to do the right things."

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the School Board for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.  This was the thirty-sixth consecutive year that the School Board has received this prestigious award.

Also, for the thirty-sixth consecutive year, the School Board received the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023.

Management believes this year's report complies with the standards and principles of these two prestigious organizations and has submitted the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2024 to ASBO and GFOA for consideration of awards.
